Summary
After the disastrous dragon hunt, Jaskier gives Geralt his one wish though it will cause him eternal pain to do so. Higher vampires mate for life, only ever giving their heart to their one. Unfortunately for Jaskier, he has already given his heart to the witcher without realizing it. When a vampire's one rejects their heart, they will forever live with chronic, inescapable pain for which there is no cure.
So Jaskier sheds the skin of the joyful human bard and returns to Oxenfurt to step back into the roles he left behind--Professor Pankratz, Julian the Viscount de Lettenhove, and Dandelion the spy. With Nilfgaard gearing up to go to war, Jaskier is faced with decisions he never wanted to make, a guild to protect, a war to win, a princess to find, a sorceress to save (however begrudgingly), and a pain in his chest that only gets worse the longer the witcher is near.

“Five things you can see, four things you can physically feel, three things you can hear, two you can smell, one you can taste.” Jaskier can hear his mother whispering it softly in his ear, he can feel her cold and dainty hands rubbing gently at his arms- he can smell the wine on her breath, and he can hear his father’s slurred, distant complaints.
It’s weirdly comforting, in a way.“Books… firewood… broken tiles… cobwebs… torn tapestries…” Jaskier quietly says to himself, rocking the slightest bit as panic fills his chest.

Il était pathétique. Il en avait conscience. Et il s’est accrocher malgré avant de réaliser qu’il ne mérité même pas l’ombre dans laquelle il se cachait. La fuite avait été la seule solution. Fuir tout le monde était plus agréable que de leur faire face. C’était pour le mieux, et maintenant Jaskier allait partir pour de bon, offrant sa bénédiction à Geralt et laissant la famille sans son ombre purulente et inutile.
Juste restait loin de Nifgaard et se terrer quelque part. Il pouvait le faire, il savais chasser et camper. Ou biens il mourrait lamentablement dans la neige mais peut être que c’était un meilleurs destin que de mourir dans une cellule d’un quelconque empire ou nation.
Jaskier part, dévoré par l'incertitude, la peur et l'impression de n'être qu'un étranger perdu trop longtemps dans une famille qu'il ne connait pas. Le voyage ne se passe pas bien et le barde doit se laisser guérir alors que les sorceleurs, un en particulier, tente de s'ouvrir et réparer les choses.

Summary
It took Jaskier almost a month to reach the coast, but it was worth it. He arrived when the sun was just rising, making everything look like it was painted with amber and honey. The wave touched cooling on his bare feet, he sat on the sand and observed the sea with wet eyes.
He wept and through the tears he decided. He decided to kill Jaskier.
Or, Geralt and Yennefer think Jaskier is dead. He’s not. He’s living your cottagecore fantasy but he’s also learning a lot with his new friend.
