Summary
Alarm, again. Groaning, fumbling--alarm off, again. Face turning from pillow enough for the smell of coffee to penetrate. Opening eyes, closing them, pressing face to pillow.
The coffee will burn.
Groaning, again.

Summary
Cathonia is full of horses and plains and poppy fields; it is full of mountains and rivers and mines. It is a beautiful kingdom, and it is an odd one, or so Hermes says.
It is full of wealth, which is why, Ares supposes, his father did not oppose his mother arranging Ares’ marriage as part of the treaty.
“I will see my son happily wed,” had been his mother’s final and only say on the matter when Ares demanded to know why him and not Hephaestus. Ares, despite being fifteen with all the lack of control that meant, did not point out that he would be happiest unmarried, because his mother was always, all his life, understanding of his deep seated preference for men.

Summary
You work together, off and on, for years and decades and centuries; you meet the dawn and there he is, scowling as the sun makes his way across the sky and you want, every time, to kiss the dip of his eyebrows. You don’t; you laugh, instead, you say something trivial, trite, because it makes him snort a quiet laugh.
That’s the sound you start your day with for years, decades, centuries—Death’s quiet little laugh, forced out of him, as you take over where he left off.

Summary
Not all gods are like Hermes. Most gods, in truth--most gods are born with all their parts, grow by unfolding secrets and mysteries. Most don’t steal.
Borrow.
(It’s stealing, to be clear. Hermes does not return what he takes. Except the once, but let’s not get ahead.)
But Thanatos is Death--himself, and only himself.
Hermes cannot imagine anything more terrifying.
