In an AU where Nick and Charlie being soul mates is fairly literal.
Every Chapter title is the name of a song. The general premise of the chapter was inspired by the song, though not directly related to the song.

Nick Nelson never expected to have a thick parchment envelope dropped on his face in the middle of a nap by an owl of all things when he was eleven years old. He never expected that the best friend he could ever imagine meeting would be right there, smiling at him in class on the very first day at Hogwarts. He certainly never expected that four years in he might start to recognize what he should have known all along. That Charlie Spring was his best friend and always would be... but he was a whole lot more than that.
Charlie Spring has done just about everything his family never wanted him to do -- from being sorted into the wrong house, to wanting the wrong career, to making friends with a boy who might have magic in his family but had been raised as a plain old muggle by his non-magic mother. But Charlie is happy. Happier than he could have ever imagined. Except one big problem. In this universe Nick Nelson never sat next to Charlie Spring in form. In fact he spent a lot of effort on staying far away from the gay boy from year 10 because he couldn't look at him without feeling ashamed of his own cowardice.
Nick grows up to be a pro rugby player. The people close to him know he's bi, but in his line of work coming out could ruin his whole career. Maybe taking part in the reality show Dancing on Ice with a male partner is a good way to test the waters on a public reaction. That's what Nick's agent thinks at least. If he’s mainly in because he’s crushing hard on one of the pro ice-skaters, Charlie Spring, nobody but Nick needs to know that…
The only problem is, Charlie hates his guts, and Nick has no clue why. Can they still make it work somehow?
