They all wanted to experience one summer without having to fight for their life. Robin came up with the idea since she was on the lookout for a job for the summer. It was in another town, near the biggest lake in the area. She got Steve involved and Steve told Dustin, Dustin informed -and kind of forced Eddie. Nancy wanted to clear her head and spend some time away from Hawkins. So the rest joined one by one.

At all started with a phone call from Max asking if Steve could go and check in on Eddie. Of course being the person he is, he went. That there, the moment he spotted Eddie on the bathroom floor covered in his own vomit and in pain started the beginning of a weird love story. A lot of shit proceeded to go down and suddenly Eddie was moving in with him.
It started with longing glances, lingering touches, making breakfast for another and slowly that developed into something. Something Steve has been longing for a really long time, and something Eddie deserves. Things were going great for them. well, that was until they had to adopt Dustin, and then Nancy and Jonathan moved into Eddie and Steve's home. Next was Billy to move in and- damn the house is getting full. But, despite that the family was more than happy with the position they found themselves in. They deserve a domestic type of life after defeating Vecna.

You tend to look the other way as they keep roaming the earth, the venom of their heart proliferating and poisoning your body, your mind, slowly, viciously spreading to everything that ever mattered to you; because you know you survived other kinds of monsters that openly tried to kill you. Because staying alive was the priority, still is, and you know there’s always something worse, something bigger, lurking out in the darkness and ready to swoop down on you and the ones you love.
When facing such horrors, you tend to forget that other kinds of monsters exist.
Max never got the luxury to forget.

Steve was an only child, and his parents barely acknowledged his existence. They started leaving him for business trips for weeks at a time when he was a toddler. Once he turned 13, his parents started leaving him home alone, no longer calling in a babysitter to stay with him. Steve had never had a relationship with his parents, or a sibling-esque relationship with any of his so-called friends. He can remember his sophomore year of high school, watching Jonathan and Will and feeling physically ill because he wanted that. He wanted a sibling that he could spend time with and talk to. But, he didn’t have that. Until Nancy Wheeler told him he was bullshit in some party bathroom and Dustin Henderson and the rest of his shithead kids weaseled their way into Steve’s life.
The one that he wasn’t expecting to feel such an overwhelming need to protect, however, was Max Mayfield.

He has a fourteen year old in the passenger seat of his car and no idea where the hell they're supposed to go.

And how fucking ironic is it that this had all started because he was supposed to be grabbing Max's report. That everything had been fine up until he'd found a literal suicide note in the process. One that he'd never expected to find.
