    Summary

The air in the chapel is very cold and very quiet and the light shines like it’s filtered through sapphires rather than glass. Galahad once said that the icons on the altar felt like being surrounded by friends, because Galahad heard the voices of saints in his ears and saw angels when he closed his eyes; but when Mordred’s head goes strange all he hears is rushing water, and all Mordred sees now is wood and paint.

Mordred kneels heavily on the stone floor and bows his head and clasps his hands so they won’t shake and tries to pray.

“You and Mordred seem close,” Lancelot comments to him, not disapprovingly.

Galahad weighs speech against silence for a moment and then says “He thinks we’re soulmates,” not looking at Lancelot’s face.

“And what do you think?” his father asks him, careful, careful.

“I don’t know what I think,” Galahad says, and means it.

    Summary

The wind is fast and drowns out all the other noise this high off the ground. Cold, although maybe that’s just that Galahad is almost always cold.

“You like high up places,” Mordred says, and Galahad might be imagining how carefully neutral he sounds. Alternatively, he might not be.

“It feels like fasting feels,” Galahad agrees. “High and cold and clear and sort of dizzy and not so close. I don’t know. I thought it might help, you looked like you were falling apart and it’s quiet here.”

    Summary

As if unconsciously Mordred digs his fingernails into his right forearm and his wrist, where dark blue veins stand out against skin that looks almost bloodless; his face doesn’t change, doesn’t move. “Come in,” Galahad says before he can think twice about it, and Mordred does, shuts the door behind him.

    “Are you —”

“No, I’m not sure. Sit down.” Mordred does.

    Summary

Mordred talks in his sleep, indistinct murmurs with the occasional half-slurred word; Agravaine has learned to sleep through it. By now the sound is nearly as much of a comfort as holding him, as being able to feel his heartbeat and the rise and fall of his chest as he breathes, another form of certain knowledge that nothing has happened to either of them, and Mordred, in turn, settles into embraces Gareth once called crushing and calls them grounding.

Mordred gasps and goes, abruptly, very tense, and then he relaxes and his eyes open and he lets out the breath. “Did I wake you? I’m sorry.”

“I was awake already, don’t be.” A few seconds of silence. “Dreaming about drowning again?”

    Summary

the kingdom of logres, at the end of an era. at its beating heart stands camelot, and the round table of king arthur

Galahad: I’ve never heard the voice of God. Not like my mother does. No golden visions, no word of the Almighty. Just… faith. Like emptiness, and the knowledge I have to fix it.
    *
grail knight is a three-act episodic zoom-theater adaptation of the story of Sir Galahad and the Quest for the Holy Grail. Here, the last knight of the round table is reimagined as a young trans girl struggling under the weight of destiny and the task of fixing her predecessors’ Camelot. Born into a broken world and to a divine prophecy that says she will heal it, Galahad faces questions that haunt us today: how can we fix the mistakes of our predecessors? How do we find agency and identity in a world where we must conform to survive? Is there room to live and love in a dying world?

    Summary

“Percy’s blunt, not stupid,“ Mordred says when Kay asks why they’re even friends, “and anyway she’s great, she never calculates anything, she just says stuff and makes everyone else deal with it. I could never be brave enough.”

This is because Mordred absolutely does calculate every word that comes out of his mouth, except sometimes when it’s two in the morning and everyone except him and Galahad and Percival has gone to sleep and he can argue as passionately in favor of peace as he wants with the only two people who won’t call him a traitor for it, and while he doesn’t not appreciate this trait of Percival’s, like hell is he going to admit to his real reason.

    Summary

The door creaks when they open it. In fact, the whole place creaks every time either of them moves. Galahad flicks on the lights; the bulb is about fifty years old, from the look of it, and it spurts and flickers like it’s on its last legs. The cabin is overgrown with flowers; there are beds with pink and orange lilies sprouting from the mattresses, bright purple morning glories creeping across the wall. It’s beautiful, except for the creaking and the flickering and the fact that they’re going to have to spend the night here and probably the devil will show up because when has anything ever gone well at this camp and oh, right, they’ve been set up to fail when he does.

Mordred drops his backpack and flops down on the floor, doesn’t put his weight on any of the furniture, and touches the petals of a pink lily almost absentmindedly. “It’s a bit of a fixer upper,” he says, then adds, “Could be a nursery,” purely to see if it’ll make Galahad laugh.

    Or:

Two boys at Christian summer camp, in an abandoned cabin deep in the woods, here to face the devil.

Humans are more likely to kill you than the devil is, statistically. What could possibly go wrong?

    Summary

"They had come a long way the night before. Galahad had ridden hard into Arthur’s army camp, found his parents again, and had almost immediately turned his horse towards the enemy encampment in order to break a curse of a year and a half that had laid itself upon Mordred. Naturally, this whole mess had started when he’d touched the Grail that Galahad had almost died retrieving. What a pair they made."

    Summary

Agravaine debated for a day or so whether it was worth bringing up at all, and if so how to do it, and (because it’s Mordred, and Mordred hates when people try to talk around their actual point) what he settled on was “I notice you’ve been wearing more jackets the last few months.”

Mordred jumps and tenses up, and then goes deliberately relaxed again when he realizes who this is coming from. “Yeah,” he says, less an agreement than a challenge. “I have.”

A pause, in which Agravaine doesn’t say anything, waits for Mordred to get his words in order, because if he just pretends he didn’t notice how Mordred is half-prepared for a fight then probably there won’t be one.

    Summary

Galahad's flower shop is having a slow week until a customer comes in to buy a very particular flower arrangement...

"Once in a blue moon, something properly exciting happened during Dead Week.

The bell tingled cheerfully as the door opened. Galahad looked up from the computer where he was playing a round of solitaire (dead week indeed) to find that his customer had already stalked up to the front desk.

“Hello, how can I help you?” Galahad asked politely, trying to engage calmly with the agitated young man on the other side of his counter.

“Yes. I need a funeral arrangement that says as close to ‘rot in hell you evil bastard’ as you can make.”
