Summary
Something in the world is wrong.
Demon activity is rising where mysterious black substance oozes and unusual ecological events are shaking the world. Dean, grief hanging on his shoulders, restlessly searches for answers that might lead him to the Empty… and to Cas.
But what Chuck wrote can’t be undone. The narrative thread pulls Dean along, forcing him to comply. Because once a story already has an ending, it can’t be rewritten.
Or can it?

Summary
.....and Dean tries to accept that this, this life, is just how it was always supposed to be for him, how it would always be—that his father wanted him to pick up where he left off, saving people, hunting things, the family business, something like that, whatever that means anymore. That it’s always been his fate, to die a hunter, to die at the hands of some monster, even at the hands of a monster that turned out to be God himself. But lying alone in the middle of a discarded Earth, he knows this isn’t all there is for him. That he could have been, could be, so much more than Daddy’s blunt instrument.

Summary
Gone, gone. He can’t feel his hands. Gone, gone.
Is there a word for the absence of an echo? When you call into a vast, dark space and expect an answer, even just a reflection of your own voice, but nothing will call back to you? These are Dean’s thoughts. This is the world.
Wall at his back. Shuddering. Gone. Hands numb, shaking. Bereft of tears. Cas gone. Which means love gone. Forever.
Wall at his back and he can’t stop trembling. Numb. It could be seconds, or minutes, or hours. It feels like years. Time dissolves around him, the world dissolves around him. Cas. Gone.
And only the absence of an echo of the world, left.
.
Fixing the events of 15x19 to give the characters believable arcs and the stories they deserved (including Michael because WOW) and the events of 15x20 so that, essentially, they never happened and Dean grieved properly before getting to live out his days with the love of his life, on earth.

Did you hate the season finale? Same! This is the fic for you.
We pick up at the beginning of 15x18 with Jack about to explode and no clue how to take down Chuck. The gays are all okay at the end, and Dean doesn't die on a rusty nail. I promise a happy ending and actual regular updates. Loosely based on the canon episodes.

"Jack, wait."
Dean's voice is quiet. "Is everyone back? Charlie? Stevie?" Dean's eyes briefly turn to his left, where Sam stands. "Eileen?"

Summary
Dean Winchester, and his brother Sam, are finally free to do what they want. No one is controlling them any more. No one is writing their story for them. It is all up to them now.
Quiet and peaceful days in the bunker. Living almost as if they were ordinary people, with ordinary lives. The only thing they had to worry about was stuff like laundry. Grocery shopping. Walking their dog, Miracle. Maybe do some research for a hunt, if they are up for it.
Living.
Dean can finally live his own life. And yet, he is nowhere near being happy. On the contrary, he is feeling worse than he has ever felt before. Learning that the one thing that Dean has dreamed about for years, the one thing that could make him truly happy, was always within reach for him - has left him more broken than he has never been before. The moment he learned this, was both the happiest moment in his life. But also the most heartbreaking.
Dean´s one wish in life has always been to be loved back the way he loves his family. Being loved back the same way he has loved Cas for the last decade. And now he has that.
He only needs to save his angel first.

Summary
There are words the Empty is incapable of knowing. Words that are too full, that contain too much. They cannot be bereft, and the Empty cannot grasp onto such substance. Words like family, like forgiveness, like because.
Like sacrifice.
Words like Dean.
On Earth, Dean mourns, and he continues to fight the good fight. The fight for free will, for choice. Dean rolls the pain, the exhaustion, from his shoulders, and he fights.
And then the fight is over.
In the Empty, Castiel sleeps.
And then he wakes.

They win. They defeat Chuck, leave him begging on his knees. But it isn't over yet, because family doesn't end in blood and it sure as shit doesn't start there either. And if the sex-haired, socially awkward, blue-eyed angel doesn't qualify as family then who the fuck does? Team Free Will's got work to do.
But once that's done, once their work's finally done- they take on a new adventure; living. This is a story of how they lay their weary head to rest.

Summary
Dean takes a breath, squares up to it. “I’m sorry I didn’t say anything. I’m sorry I didn’t say it back.”
Cas stares at him. Waits.
“I still don’t know how to say it back,” Dean admits. “Never been particularly good with words. Don’t think I ever said those particular words to anyone. But I need you to know. Me too. I mean. I feel that, too. What you said.”

Summary
And when he’s alone, when Sam’s gone, or he’s lying in bed… no matter how hard he tries to avoid it, every time he closes his eyes Dean keeps flashing back to that last, horrific moment—Cas smiling as he’s consumed by darkness. “You changed me,” and “I love you,” and “goodbye.” He tries to reconcile it in his head, Cas loving him so much that just expressing it was enough to trigger his deal. He tries—and fails. He must have missed a step, lost in the grief and horror of the moment, because it just… it can’t be real. Every time he tries to take it out and examine it, his mind shies away, throwing up an impenetrable wall of “impossible.”
In the weeks following Chuck's defeat, Dean tries to come to terms with Cas's confession and death. But having your kid become god turns out to have some perks.
