Summary
“I’ve got you,” Cas says, and it pings at something in Dean. A long forgotten memory.
His mother’s voice asking his father, “You got him?” Dean is four and held up in his father’s arms. And John Winchester says, “I got him.” Like it’s a given. Like, of course he always will have him, safe and sure in his embrace. Dean snuggles closer, wraps small arms around his father’s large shoulders. It’s the last time he hears his mother’s voice. It’s the last time his father holds him close.
Dean loses his home on a day in early November. Twice.

Summary
Dean wasn’t sure how much time had passed. Days blended together, turning into weeks and months. In his mind, and in his heart, those days blended together until all that was left was an aching numbness. A numbness that was so profound, it was only a matter of time until it completely consumed every last part of him.

Summary
Sam, Dean, Cas and Jack - along with the Wayward Sisters and the rest of Team Free Will's extended makeshift family - sat outside on a hill, overlooking Dean and Cas's new house they bought just a month after defeating Chuck for good. There were genuine smiles and laughs shared between Dean and his family as they ate their burgers and watched the sunset.

Summary
“The whole Cain-and-Abel thing,” Dean blusters. “Us dead. Whatever. I'll kill Sam. Sam will kill me. We'll kill each other. Okay? You pick. But, first, you gotta put everything back the way it was,” Dean continues, and this, this is why he’s Chuck’s favourite. Even at his lowest, he’s still making demands. “The people, the birds, Cas. You gotta bring him back.”
Even at his lowest, Dean still lets himself hope for something.
It’s fascinating.
“We're surrendering,” Sam finishes their little speech. “We're giving up.”
Chuck nods, as if he’s thinking it over.
But the eager glint in his eyes gives him away.
“Okay. Dean, kill Sam.”

Summary
Post-Defeat of Chuck in Inherit the Earth, Jack is off to become the new God, and the Winchesters are left to pick up the pieces. Only Jack's unannounced changes to the universe have Sam and Dean apparently unemployed and still stumped as to how to rescue Cas
...
Sam doesn’t put up much of a fight, he flips the laptop back open and Dean sees himself sitting on the floor, in the dungeon and-oh God the Dean on the floor is openly sobbing. Which means Sam already saw-
Dean slams the laptop closed, “Why are you watching that?”
“I just thought-” Sam doesn’t finish his sentence, starts a different one. “I’m so sorry, Dean.”
“Don’t,” Dean pleads, “Don’t be sorry. We’re going to fix this. You and me and Jack, we are going to get him back.”
Sam nods, wiping at his face, “Yeah. Of course we are. We will.”
Dean hates how much his voice shakes when he asks, “You really watched-?”
“Sorry,” Sam says, and this time he finishes the sentence, “I thought if I just saw The Empty again I might see something I was missing.”
“Did you?”
“Yes.” Sam doesn’t sound like he’s talking about a solution to the Cas problem. And sure enough, “I saw Cas. And for the first time in a long time, I saw you.” -

Summary
After riding the high of the defeat of god, Dean could feel the feeling creeping back, a terrifying wave of complete numbness. Something he had not felt in years, since C- he died all those years ago to Lucifer. It was a special sort of hell that tortured him because of him and nobody else. Returning to the bunker had been the catalyst that put it into full swing. Dean entered his room 3 days ago, and had not left since.

Summary
He can’t do this, maybe he was meant to do this, but he can’t and he knows he should try to, that someone needs to take this on, but maybe at least he shouldn’t have to be alone. This power isn’t about him, none of this is about him, but he can’t help selfishly thinking what’s the point of having anything like this if he can’t have Cas back?
Do you ever think about how Jack deciding that maybe Godhood is one burden he shouldn't have to take on – for once – would actually be quite a good ending for him? -

Summary
15x19: Dean opens the bunker door, and sees Cas.
____
His best friend loves him, and all Dean wants to do is kiss him, keep kissing him, find a way to burrow underneath his skin and make a home out of his ribcage, so there's clearly something there, something that he doesn't exactly have the bandwidth to look at too closely right now.
His best friend loves him, and is back, and is already trying to sell his life back up the river, and all Dean wants, all Dean has ever, ever wanted from Cas, is for him to stay. But if Cas can't do that, if this is the end of the line, and the chips are down, and there's really no other way out—if Cas can't stay, then this time Dean will go with him. Simple as that.

Summary
Alternate storyline to Inherit the Earth and Carry On, based on the Lord Huron song and is best while read while listening. Aka, a love letter to Castiel.
I started listening to The Night We Met by Lord Huron, and this storyline would not leave me alone until I wrote it down, so here I am, unable to do a non-song-related fic.
The end might be a tad weird because I was only getting a vibe about where the story should end instead of the actual plot. This story comes with a playlist on Ch 1 of my Playlist book

Summary
[podfic version] And when he’s alone, when Sam’s gone, or he’s lying in bed… no matter how hard he tries to avoid it, every time he closes his eyes Dean keeps flashing back to that last, horrific moment—Cas smiling as he’s consumed by darkness. “You changed me,” and “I love you,” and “goodbye.” He tries to reconcile it in his head, Cas loving him so much that just expressing it was enough to trigger his deal. He tries—and fails. He must have missed a step, lost in the grief and horror of the moment, because it just… it can’t be real. Every time he tries to take it out and examine it, his mind shies away, throwing up an impenetrable wall of “impossible.”
In the weeks following Chuck's defeat, Dean tries to come to terms with Cas's confession and death. But having your kid become god turns out to have some perks.

Summary
Dean hasn't stepped foot in the dungeon in months.
Not since Castiel told him he loved him, not since he said goodbye, not since he left another handprint on his shoulder. It's hard to even look at the room now, look at the wall where he sat for hours, for who knows how long. Look at, or stand in, the middle of the room where that black hole opened up and swallowed what Dean didn't realize at the time was the best thing he'd had in years, maybe in his life.
It's hard to be in here, even though he's in here for a necessary reason. Though Dean still doesn't know how to feel about the fact that this might be the room that he both loses and gets back Cas.

Summary
Dean confesses first.
I'm discussing the conflicts brought up by canon (especially the overlooked aspects of Sam and Jack's experiences), confronting what it could actually mean to be trapped in a story made by a cruel and angry God, making an admittedly strange string of Lord of the Rings references, and poking at the fourth wall.
Join me.
FYI, tags and things might change as I post, because this is the first fic I'm posting here and I'm still pretty confused by how Ao3 works?

Summary
After the confessions scene Dean is left alone with the words on the tip of his tongue.
This picks up just after Cas is gone and around the beginning of 15x19. Don't worry the bullshit of the very last episode is a no.
There is actually happiness and peace.
