Summary
Rated mature because I don't know where this is going and this all started as a dream I had.
AU. Maybe he did mess up, but the 118 have proven that they're not the family he thought they were, and he's had enough therapy (Thanks, Maddie) to recognise that he doesn't deserve to live the rest of his life like this. But moving on doesn't mean forgetting, and even when you make the best attempt to rebuild your life, the past will always catch up with you.
Evan "Buck" Buckley is a single dad to a beautiful 18-month-old girl and a firefighter at station 76. He's spent the last few years learning how to trust himself and others again, will a couple of chance encounters with those he used to call family change all that? Or can his new and old life blend seamlessly into something better?
Tagged as Buddie because chances are, it'll happen eventually.
Tagged as Minor Character Death because they're first responders not super-heros. -

Summary
Buck lets out a pathetic sob, smacking Eddie's arm. "You romantic bitch," she says through her tears. And then she laughs until Eddie's lips quiet her.
She looks back on all of the heartache that loving this woman has provided her, and she kisses her girlfriend because nothing matters and will ever matter more than the fact that it all led back to her.
If ten years of loving her, eight years of missing her, brought even one minute of Eddie back into her life, then it was worth it.
It was all worth it.
(Or, the road to happily ever after is paved with a shit ton of potholes.)

Summary
“We need to talk.” Eddie quickly averts his eyes to the cabinet next to Buck. If Eddie looks at Buck’s face, he knows he’ll cave and give up on this. “I think we need to break up.”
Buck finally stops moving around to turn and look at Eddie. Eddie makes sure to avoid meeting Buck’s eyes. This is hard enough as it is. Seeing Buck in pain will just make it ten times worse. Eddie knows that Buck is waiting for him to say more, but in this moment, Eddie has somehow lost his voice. His head falls and he now finds himself staring at the floor.
“Eddie.” Buck says and there’s a pleading in his voice. Eddie shakes his head softly as he glances back up, still avoiding Buck’s stare. “Eddie, I don’t understand.”

Summary
He immediately stops spiraling when he hears Buck say, "Eddie, I love you and I'm in love with you!"
He's smiling and blushing and then he meets Eddie's eyes while he patiently waits for Eddie to return the sentiment.
Eddie bites his lip, looks away and goes completely still. His mind starts spiraling again as his mother's words of, "Don't drag him down with you Eddie" start playing on repeat in his mind like a broken record.
Buck is staring at him with wide hopeful eyes just waiting on him to respond.
Eddie takes a sip of his beer, glances over at Buck without making full eye contact and whispers, "Maybe...you shouldn't...love me. I-I mean...you could do much better". He followed it with a low self-deprecating laugh and he knew instantly that his comment was all wrong but now that he's said it, he knows that he can't take it back.
______________Or Eddie doesn't think he deserves to be loved by Buck but he's wrong and Buck proves just how wrong he is.

Summary
"No!" Eddie screams, sounding like the word was ripped from his throat, like he's the one who just got shot. There's a beat or two before Buck understands why.
On his side, a patch of dark red is slowly spreading across the dark blue of his uniform. He's looking down at it for a few seconds, like he doesn't understand what it is. And then the pain hits Buck, white hot and icy cold all at once, and his eyes roll into the back of his head as he crumples to the ground.

Summary
"Eddie? Eds, can you hear me?” Buck rubs his knuckles against Eddie's sternum, a little too harsh, a little too desperate. "Eddie!"
Eddie croaks out a weak, barely there, whine as Buck's knuckles do the trick and his eyes open in slits.
"Evan?" He chokes out, his voice so hoarse and raspy that it must have been hurting his throat. "You're real?" He whispers in awe, his hand twitching as his side like he wants to reach up to Buck— touch his face— but he's too weak to do that. Eddie's brow furrowed but a small smile graces his lips, barely there. "I didn't give up. I made it home to you."

Summary
Eddie is dying again.
A shutdown electrical cable turned out to to be live after all, and Eddie is dying again.
He feels gloved hands on his face, and hears Hen's voice calling his name.
"Eddie, wake up!"
And because Eddie is tired of dying, he decides he will.
****
Eddie opens his eyes to familiar hospital ceiling tiles, and familiar hospital walls, and familiar worried faces looming over the bed. When they see he's awake, Hen and Chimney grin at each other and Bobby murmurs a quiet "Thank you" heavenward."Chris..." he rasps. His throat is so dry. How long was I out for this time? He feels something heavy settle on his chest at the thought.
