Suzaku was just a nameless soldier in the military, one of many pawns on the back of a dragon. He wanted to fight to protect his country, his home, and his friends, despite his lack of power or name.
He had no idea who the rebel leader Zero was, but he knew he was trouble. No good could come from challenging the empire, and the fact Zero was even trying was going to cause more harm than good to the Japanese.
But he was stuck in a game, something bigger than he had any knowledge of. He was more than a pawn on a board, and the day would come when he would realise it and break free.
He was destined for something greater. -

Suzaku Kururugi is twenty three years old when Empress Nunnally vi Britannia calls him into her office with her right hand placed over his helm, as if she were swearing by it, and gently asks him to step down from his position as Zero. After years of spilling blood, destroying lives, and ruining homes, Suzaku teaches himself kindness: he moves out to the countryside and lives alone, nourishing a garden not far from the old Kururugi shrine.
Despite his peaceful life, fate brings Lelouch back to him once again.
