    Summary

The Homelander is a monster. In many ways, he's little more than a bully far too used to get his way.

Claire knows she is no saint. After all, did she not steal her son from his birthing bed? Still. Regardless of what new challenges the universe has for her, she is not about to have her son or her temporary residence in this strange future be threatened by Vought's golden boy.

She is a monster too, you see. And unlike some others, she wasn't made in a lab. Her powers go beyond what the so-called genius of Vought had ever conceived as possible.

    Summary

“Lallybroch may no longer be yer husband’s land in name, but ye’ll always have a place here, Claire. Ye’ll always belong wi’ us.”

Claire smiled at her tearfully. “Thank you, Jenny.”

    ——

Right before Culloden, Jamie makes Claire promise she will be a mother to Fergus. With the deed of sasine in hand and that promise in her heart, Claire heads back to Lallybroch. There’s just one thing…she didn’t tell Jamie she was pregnant. Now, she is faced with the prospect of never getting to tell him, of having to raise their child without him. She is also faced with the dangerous reality of her high risk pregnancy. But Jamie made a promise: whatever happens, she’d never be alone again. And even without him, Claire can feel him keeping his promise through the love and comfort of his family, helping her bring their child into the world and raising her in his memory.

    ——

My take on “Jamie doesn’t send Claire back through the stones.” I wanted to somehow prove that even if Jamie had died at Culloden like he’d planned, Claire still would have been happier raising her child with Jamie’s family in the past than she ever would have been in the future with Frank.

    Summary

In 1943, Claire Fraser takes in a French orphan named Claudel, who lost his home, family, and all but his name when his village was bombed a year earlier. With her husband away fighting in Italy, Claire does the best she can to maintain some semblance of a home and family for the small child even as everything she holds dear is upended by the war. A modern(ish) au, about life, love, and family during wartime.

    Summary

“I’m Frank!” Frank yells, pressing himself as close to the wall behind him as humanly possible with one arm immobilized and the rest of him tangled in starchy bedding. “Frank Randall! Please!

    Everyone freezes.

From the other side of the door, there is the faint sound of birds chirping, as though everything going on in this cursed cabin is suspended in a reality far away from the real world of the outdoors. The assorted tangle of children is wide-eyed, mouthing silently at each other in total confusion.

Finally, the old man lowers his dirk half a centimeter, and says -- very slowly, as though barely able to believe it himself --

    “... Claire’s … Frank?”

Claire Fraser tells some stories, fields an odd, recurring dream, and finally learns the true magic of the Stones.

    Summary

When Claire looks back on the events leading up to the Rising, she will not think of the cold, or the hunger, or the metallic tang of blood and metal ever-present against the back of her tongue. She will not think about every tragedy she tries to prevent, or the taste of desperation swelling and sticking like silt in her throat, leaving its bloody, godforsaken fingers smeared there for years to come.

She will think of an embrace, delicate as a bird’s egg in its weighty carefulness, that took place just on her other side.
