Summary
[Five thousand two hundred and eighty seven names. Five thousand two hundred and eighty seven lives, gone because of what? Patriotism? Honor? The Great March? He snorts, shakes his head - lies, all of that. They died - his daughter died - because of the same things that had been killing men for as long as he’d lived, as long as men had lived. Greed, and lies. Nothing more. Greed…and lies.
(There’s nothing about that, here, though. It’s nowhere to be seen, and maybe, he thinks, maybe that’s for the best.
Maybe it’s better that way, that they don’t say anything about what they were doing. That the rocks just say name and age and…a little something.
Maybe that’s all the world needs.)]
------
Once, the 41st Division marched to its death. Once, a prince tried to stop it. Once, Chit Sang had a daughter who never came home.
No matter what the world tries, nothing can ever erase their names from the world.
------
A sequel to to that loyal heart you're forever sixteen.

Summary
The day started just like every other day.
OR: The morning after his flashback, Zuko is confronted with uncomfortable silences and unsubtle glances. He is, however, wholly unwilling to talk about this.
(Inspired by, you guessed it, just about every Gaang learns-about-Zuko's-scar-fic ever. Should be read after Innocence died screaming.)

Summary
He’s had to deal with the taunting his entire life, but with the mutilation of his face it had become inescapable. He thought it would finally be over now that he’d joined forces with the Avatar and his friends. Because, they were the good guys after all, weren’t they?
After his presentation at the age of 12, people, mostly alphas, would flirt with him just enough to get him interested, then laugh in his face for thinking they were ever being serious. It was humiliating and degrading, and most days he was convinced he wasn’t even an omega anymore. Like his disfigurement made him some kind of hybrid gender that had no place in the world.

Summary
Kuzon doesn’t like his present.
June’s never giving anyone anything ever again.
She pulls herself off that cliff to inspect his expression more carefully. He doesn’t dislike it, necessarily; he’s just staring at it like it’s terrifying beyond his comprehension.
(Which is the reaction it should inspire in strangers, sure, but not in him.)

Summary
Iroh had always been good at faking tears. He had used that little trick in many ways. He’d sobbed his way through meetings where he was deciding which troops would die and which would live. It made people more sympathetic to the cause, after all. He cried in marketplaces to get better deals. He cried over food that was good to get free second portions. His skill would come in quite handy today.
As the smoke from the moo-sow’s pyre begins to spill into the sky, Ora is handed the prince said to be burning. He’s in a crate, same as all the animals her crew is picking up. She only knows this one has the boy in it because the man who hands him over looks her in the eye and says, “I’m fond of this one. Maybe find it a good home instead of butchering it?”
---
Iroh pulls some strings and fakes Zuko's death following the Agni Kai. He is handed off to a band of travelling traders (and sometimes pirates) who decide that the best place for a dead prince is as far away from his family as possible - The Southern Water Tribe.

Summary
"His eyebrows raised as he saw four figures dash into the yard to grab various articles of clothing. His eyebrows raised even further as he glimpsed the blue clothes of two of the figures, the green of another, and finally the yellow of the last. His eyes met the boy with the singed yellow outfit as he was pulling a school uniform off the clothesline and noticed his arrows. It was easy to conclude who the boy was,"

In which Lu Ten isn't dead, and conveniently notices the avatar isn't either. Considering the world thinks both of them are dead, it's really only logical that he helps the avatar finish the war. After all, he really wants to tell his father and his cousin that he's not as dead as they think he is. -

Summary
They finish their moment in a flash that feels far too quick for Zuko's liking, and they both turn to look back to the rest of the group. “Anyways, we’re not dating,” Sokka says.
Zuko shakes his head cluelessly. “Yeah, I don’t know why you would think that.”
They’re met with astonished gaping from the adults.(And an exasperated sigh from Suki, because her idiots have fallen in love.)
Or, after the Boiling Rock, Chit Sang makes the mistake of assuming Sokka, Zuko and Suki are all together. This prompts some thoughts from our boys.

Summary
In the wake of joining the Avatar, Zuko grapples with his identity.
Who is Zuko, if not the prince of the Fire Nation?
Under Sokka’s plan, no one will see their faces—not guards or prisoners or even the prison cooks. Still, Zuko can’t help but wonder what his—what the people of the Fire Nation would think, how they would act, if they saw him again.
For most of his banishment, the only Fire Nation people he interacted with were the crew of the Wani, who all resented being commanded by someone so young and hot-tempered. Even when he returned to the capital, he didn’t actually see that many other people. Those who he did see seemed to respect him—but that was when they believed he killed the Avatar. He’s sure that if any of them had seen him during his banishment, they would have treated him with contempt.
And now that he’s betrayed them all? Zuko can only imagine their disgust.

Summary
Chit Sang didn’t lie to June, when he said he’d angered the Fire Lord simply by misfiling a library scroll. But under the neat words, there’s more to the story. There always is.

Summary
He should have known something was going to happen. Really it should have been obvious. He just didn’t think the rest of the gang would have noticed a change in behavior. He didn’t think they cared enough to realize. He wouldn’t have, he chased them across the world for months and hurt them. Why would they care?
