Your conversation with your mom is less informative than your conversation with your sister. You text:
    > Hey so are you kicking me out of the house for Thanksgiving or what
    She responds:
    > Dont put it like that
    > But yes
    > Hv fun w/the gberts!
Followed by a series of emoji: a turkey, a pie, a kiss, and a firework.

    Summary

This—him, Simone, and Pat—could be, Brian thinks, a thing. He doesn’t know how to quantify it, or even maybe how to bring it up, but he’s seen the way Pat becomes all liquidy under Simone’s hands, how he melts into submission. And Simone and Brian have their own history, their own chemistry. When Pat gives Simone her drink, she tells him how very good it is, and he smiles wide and big.

Brian’s not one to shy away from seeing Pat smile like that more often.

    Summary

Brian's as pretty as a picture when he's posing, when he's performing, when he's composed. It's really something quite graceful, something Pat's not seen in many people; he has a way of carrying himself that is somehow both elegant and simultaneously goofy, but he manages to play it off most of the time pretty well—Brian's charming, is the thing.

But God, Pat thinks, when Brian finally comes undone—that's when the real show starts.

    Summary

The world’s left in a wasteland by long-forgotten apocalypse and the rise and fall of the government. Communities still emerge from and persevere in the desertscape- gangs and villages and even remnants of larger cities scatter across the land, loosely connected by spiderwebs of trade routes or blood spilt by conflicts.
Polygon, a group formed by mismatched wanderers, do their best to build connections with others and create a haven for their families, both found and forged.
Brian and Laura, however, have been oblivious to the going-ons of the desert, secluded in a den of beauty and vice. In the brothel, dependence is nurtured by the illusion of paradise and world-numbing syrup.

Simone promised herself someday they’d be able to escape, to join her at Polygon.

Apparently, she tells Pat, the best way to go about this is an undercover mission to break them out and steal a fuck-ton of weed in the process.

    Summary

It’s not until the day before the new hire is supposed to show up that Patrick learns he has a service dog.
Which is fine, of course, technically Pat doesn’t need any kind of warning for his coworkers accommodations, but he still would have liked to know that he has to make the mental fortifications to be around a dog all day and not pet it. Also he would have liked to have a little more time to google how he’s supposed to interact with a coworker with a service dog, but it’s fine, wikihow will have to work.

Or, Patrick falls in love with his strange young co-worker.

    Summary

“Like a… like a drag queen, then?” Pat asks, feeling like his breath is caught in his throat.

Brian pauses. “Not exactly. But you’ll see.” He winks at Pat confidently, and Pat’s heart is racing, trying to imagine the environment he’s going to be in. “Is that going to be a problem for you?” Brian asks, cautiously.

This is the out that Brian is giving him. And Pat knows he could take it. He could politely shrug off the job, head home. It’s a nice pay, but firmly outside of his comfort zone. So he should take it. Walk out.

In 1920s Manhattan, Pat is a freelance photographer and Brian is a queer performer. Brian hires Pat out of the blue and who is Pat to say no to field work, even if it does involve delving into the strangest night life he’s ever experienced, and hoping to God that it doesn’t awaken anything in him to see men around him wearing scandalously short dresses and skirts and beads and makeup and rouge.

    Summary

It’s hard, especially because of how much he wants it. How much he wants everything with Pat, how he wants to bear his fucking soul to Pat, wants Pat to take the reins of his body and run away with it. But it’s not as easy as just wanting: his body and mind still associate being touched with fear, and he can’t help but feel prickles of panic whenever he finds himself vulnerable around Pat.

Recovery is not a one step process; it's more like a ladder. Brian finds himself stuck on the middle rung.

    Summary

So ok, maybe Patrick is going to be the first person to die because he got lost in central park. Maybe it was stupid to go on a walk so late, maybe he should have at least charged his phone first, maybe he should have worn actual winter clothes, maybe he shouldn't have wandered off the path because he saw something out of the corner of his eye. Scratch that, he definitely shouldn't have wandered off the path because he saw something out of the corner of his eye. But none of that matters now because he's definitely gonna die.

“What are you doing out here?” someone asks cheerfully “You’ll catch a cold silly!”

Or, Patrick gets lured in by the fae

    Summary

And, well. Jesus. Pat’s just a mortal man. When he listens to Brian explain his newest schemes late at night while they’re in bed, even after they’ve fucked and fucked again, when he watches that little blush spread across Brian’s face, which is, like, impossible to fake, so it’s real, so Brian looks like an angel from the moonlight that illuminates him from Pat’s bedside window, Pat’s mind is screaming at him that he’s not allowed to think all these sinful, unholy things he thinks about Brian. But then, that angelic face, with those pink, bitten lips, opens up, and Brian begins to spout words of absolute filth.

    Summary

It can’t have been more than half an hour before he stops again, ducking under a low branch to step into a hidden small clearing, perfectly circular as far as Pat can tell, a ring of white mushrooms in the middle. He knows enough paranormal stories to vaguely remember people say these are either summoning circles or interdimensional portals, depending on which version you believe. It’s all just bullshit, as far as he’s concerned, he’s never believed in any of this stuff, and that’s exactly why he is walking towards the mushrooms and stepping into the circle.

And, of course, nothing happens. There’s a feeling of satisfaction in his chest, knowing he was right all along. He likes reading and hearing these stories about ghosts and magic but that’s all they are- stories. That’s all they will ever be. He chuckles a little to himself, brushes the hair away from his eyes and puts his hands in his pockets before leaving the ring.

    Except- he doesn’t.

The most unbelievable thing about most zombie media is how nobody in them calls the zombies “zombies.” The entire cast of the Walking Dead somehow lives in a world without a zombie mythos. Maybe Jenna can resurrect FiendZone for that phenomenon.

Brian hadn’t -- Brian hadn’t started Pat's Gay Panic, tee em, exactly, but he hadn’t made it any easier, or better, or whatever.

Brian doesn’t have a crush on Pat.

Pat, his co-worker, who’s seven years older than him, who is most certainly straight. Who’s eyes light up in a way most people don’t notice, whose hair is always gorgeous even when it’s messy, whose body always seems like an invitation, or at the very least, a temptation.

Okay fine, maybe Brian has a bit of a crush on Pat, but it’s not like it matters anyway, right?

...but it's nothing to cry about, because we'll hold each other soon.

No one is soft with Pat. Not anymore; not in years. He moved to New York and he couldn’t pretend he wasn’t looking at other men in the wrong ways, and he divorced his ex, and he curled in on himself tight. And so no one is soft with him, nor tender. Not like this. Not like--not like Brian is.
