Summary
Stephen noted this pattern often in surly patients cured of a lingering pain: a miraculous improvement in temperament, earthly angels the morning after they damned him to hell. This did not bother him, of course. He was soothed at the reminder that man was a creature of circumstance, and that improvement of the spirit was tied to the improvement of the material conditions. In nature, in man, in society: where pain fermented, evils brewed.
What bothered him was the disproportionate gratitude towards him, personally. And it bothered him, too, that he could not wish this sailor a proper goodnight, because he did not remember the sailor's name.Stephen and Jack talk on a cold night during their first cruise on the Sophie.

Sanguinity texted me "it was your story about Aubrey at a dinner party with Hornblower and Bush, and looking at Bush being under-appreciated by Hornblower, and thinking, "well, if you're not going to hit that, I am" and making Hornblower lose his tiny little mind with jealousy, yes?"
I replied, "Yes!"
She responded "WELL, SOME of us would very much like to see that story published."
I had posted this on a DW community. So here it is on AO3, years later. I hope y'all like it.

Summary
Jack did not faint from blood loss until the Polychrest was sunk entirely and the Fanciulla had exchanged its French colors for the English. The wheel was heavily christened with his blood when he fell against it, dripping red as St. George's cross.

Summary
Stephen's needle flashed in the lantern-light as he worked, again and again quickly, well-practiced and indefatigable precision. The needle-point swam through Jack’s shoulder as Jack swam through water, smooth and efficient, and Stephen paused only to occasionally dab away new blood.
His abilities of surgical precision were rivaled only, he considered with some strange muted pride, by his marksmanship with a pistol. -

“Stephen, use your spectacles, tell me if I don’t mistake what I read.”
Maturin took the paper from across the table. “Your eyes do not deceive you, dear. You are made full Admiral, Admiral of the Blue, effective this week. I give you joy of it.”
“Admiral of the Blue,” repeated Jack, wonderingly. “Can it really be so. It seems just yesterday…” And here he gazed off, thinking, as Stephen was, of the very moment he had first raised a blue pennant at his mizzen-mast.

Summary
That was Stephen Maturin and Diana Villiers’ second meeting. It was a commonplace meeting, with not much in it to comment upon. Yet Stephen admitted to himself that he would not soon shake the memory of it.
Set during Post Captain. A couple of missing scenes detailing the start of Diana and Stephen's relationship.

Summary
Okay, but, hear me out:
Codywan, except Aubreyad-flavored, with Lucky Captain Cody Marshal, and renowned Surgeon and Royal Society Naturalist (and anti-monarchist spy) Obi-Wan Kenobi, who meet when they almost get into a fist-fight over the last set of strings in the only music shop in Portsmouth.
Obi-Wan is not a disheveled slob like Stephen, and Cody is not nearly so hapless on land as Jack. Substitute Palpatine for Napoleon, various Jedi for Obi-Wan's spy and Royal Society contacts, members of the Senate as various nobility funding the resistance to Palpatine's depredations, the clones and some of the droids for the crew of the Surprise, add a tot of lime and some rum, shake and enjoy.

Would he die? Was he in fact dying right at this moment? And Jack not there?
Jack forcibly steadied himself. He thought of Stephen's heart beating beneath his hand. Rapid, straining, like a—
—like a trapped bird. He looked up. At once he saw, tangled in a line, a pale and blotched little bundle, feebly thrashing.

Summary
He saw his own face, staring back at him—as surprised as he felt, so it must indeed have been a reflection—but then the reflection said, “Jack?” in an intonation utterly familiar.
“What—” Jack began, but the sound came out all wrong—a raspy tenor, instead of his own full bass.
He raised his hands before his eyes and saw the distinctly scarred knuckles, the missing fingernails of the right hand of Stephen Maturin.
