Summary
Joe’s words rung in Andy’s head, tugging at the center of her like a weight she hadn’t known she carried: "I will never understand why grief drives people to become agents of the thing that hurt them…"
She reached up and gripped the pendant around her neck, feeling the grooves of the pattern that she’d memorized so many thousands of years ago.
She tossed Nile the keys and muttered something about the address to the Provence safehouse. They could stop by Goussainville on the way. Nile must’ve seen whatever was in her face, because she just nodded, her eyes flicking to her wound for a split second as they all slid into their seats.
Andy tracked the young woman’s gaze as she took stock of them, and wondered what she saw. Andy had let the mask of indifference fall off her face, owning the pain in her side and the exhaustion in every muscle. She must look like shit, but Nile wasn’t judging her at all.
