Adrian pressed his knuckle affectionately against the top of the dog’s head, just between his ears. At one point he had spoken to the little dog, called his name that he had come to know the creature by, and had conversations as he went about the Castle with them lopping aside his feet, but he couldn’t remember the last time he had spoken a word.
There was no point. He had tried to teach, to guide… to care, and for his troubles, he had almost been killed, betrayed in a moment so open and vulnerable. He had no need for words anymore, not spoken at least.

Summary
Alucard has been suffering ever since his friends left with a deep sadness and lethargy that he cannot shake. Memories of his father well up and threaten to overflow, and he's had nothing but bad experiences since Trevor and Sypha left.
Fighting alone in the woods near the castle, he stumbles in over his head, weakened greatly and his guard lowered, only to be saved by the ones he'd been yearning for the most. Unspoken feelings of attraction come out of hiding, too, and Alucard doesn't quite know how to express them, nor what he is to do with himself now that the ones responsible for those unbidden feelings have returned.
