Summary
Being reassigned to wear a gold uniform wasn't a demotion by any means, but it sure felt that way to Lieutenant Commander Dean Winchester of the NCC-1701 Orion. Sure, now he was technically more qualified to be helmsman, but now that he was no longer a redshirt, people looked at him differently — even the ensigns — in a way that made his new uniform feel like a sorry cry for help. His mom died in red (Seraphim) and his dad died in red (Klingons) and Dean is alive. In yellow.
Everyone, except Dean himself, seemed to be acutely aware of what being a member of the elite security squad had gotten him into. He didn't get it. Four weeks of torture hadn't messed him up that badly. That Castiel guy worked his little memory-wipe trick and now everything was just dandy. Right?
Just as Dean gets it together, the Seraphim blow it all apart.

The starship Entreprise continues its voyages beyond the known limits of the Alpha Quadrant. They must investigate to inform Starfleet of this new danger to the Federation.
Meanwhile, Homeworld has to face an enemy that threatens to destroy their race entirely. Despite Alien!Steven's pleas for peace, the Diamonds prepare for the inevitable war for survival. That means they are awakening the dormant Kindergartens to produce new gem warriors. Peridot and Jasper are sent to prepare an old colony of Yellow Diamond.
