Caesar A. Zeppeli left Italy two years ago to live with his grandfather, William A. Zeppeli, in New York. Here, he meets Joseph Joestar, another freshman whom, if the stories Caesar heard from his grandfather have an ounce of truth to them, is a walking catastrophic nightmare. Despite this, Caesar is slowly and begrudgingly drawn to him. Things are looking up, and Caesar begins to feel more relaxed in this depressing country.
However, his turbulent past has other plans. As the twisting memories of Italy continue to singe the edge of his peripheral vision with long, spindly fingers, Caesar has to decide whether he’ll face his demons or succumb to the flames.
