The Liddell estate has grown quiet after the eldest daughters are married off to their suitors. The youngest, Birdie, is a fifteen year old brat with no intentions of following in her sisters’ footsteps.
She is more than content with her life until two men arrive at her family’s plantation; one claims to be the Duke of Bridgewater, and the other claims to be Louis-Charles, the Lost Dauphin (“the rightful King of France!”).
If Birdie knows anything, it is that she does not want to be courted, and that Louis-Charles – or whatever his real name is – is not her great-great-uncle.
