From Almaty, With Love
It’s quiet here. Even if the car alarm on the neighbor’s goddamn BMW has been going off for the past twenty minutes. Quiet, even though the alarm’s got the neighbor’s dog howling like crazy, and the neighbor works second shift and isn’t there to comfort the dumb dog.
It’s quiet…They haven’t spoken to each other since that morning, when Yuri went off to go see his tutor, and Otabek went off to do whatever the hell it was he did in the mornings before he hit the rink.
“You’re used to the noise?”
“Yeah, but…I think I like the quiet too.”
Or: Yuri spends the summer with Otabek in Almaty.
- Part 1 of From Almaty, With Love
Yuri was once told that the best stories have no ending. Otabek has never had a problem in turning the page and beginning a new. Together, they write new chapters.
Prequels, sequels, and oneshots from the "From Almaty With Love" universe. Read what you like, discontinue any time.
Current verse: “I want to apply for admission at St. Petersburg University.” Otabek locks eyes with him again, traps his lower lip between his teeth, and then looks away furtively. “If it’s okay with you,” he adds quickly. Then, “I’m really afraid that I won’t get in.” It’s a lot of words for Otabek at once. He looks physically tired from forming the words and telling them to Yuri.
- Part 2 of From Almaty, With Love
From Almaty, With Love revisited to focus predominantly on Otabek's point of view. New scenes are added, and others are reworked and refined.
Otabek snaps his laptop shut, and turns to his nearest confidant, a rosemary plant spotted with small purple blossoms. “You know,” he says out loud. “There is a very fine line between anticipation and expectation. One is harmless, and expected. The other is quite dangerous.” Maybe, expectations for himself for the summer were acceptable. Show Yuri a good time. Make sure that his training was minimally affected. Be a good friend.
