    1. Their last name is Sheffield in the book. She is taking the characters from the book.

      1. I understand that. But is their a specific reason why her surname isn't sharma? Is she not indian in this fic?

        1. Frankly it doesn’t matter where she is from in fics as long as it’s a good story. Where someone is from is only one part of what makes them who they are.

          1. I kind of disagree, in the sense that a character’s background matters to some people since we relate to certain characteristics that come with that background. I mean, I find it very hard to imagine Kate as anything except Sharma, so for me it’s definitely not a case of “it doesn’t matter.” I am willing to make an effort to not focus on that for this story, though, since it’s so good and I am excited for what the author has in store for us!

        2. Because she’s using actual book canon, that’s the reason.

    2. Thank you <3 It's more for the logistics of Kate being there in 1807. It was one long boat trip around the Cape of Good Hope from India back then so it makes sense that they only wanted to do it once (like in the show) but in the books they are from Somerset which would be a few days in a carriage at most so it just made more sense for her to be there alone if they were the book characters. In my head though, she still looks like Simone Ashley!
