      My copy says 'in the Brigade', and I'm not entirely sure what the Brigade was. I'm guessing at the party he was wearing his dress uniform anyway, and we're told he didn't seem so magnificent next morning, in a borrowed rat-catcher that didn't quite fit him!

         You're so right, mea culpa! I have have no idea what 'the Brigade' is either, but I imagine he did look really dashing in dress uniform. It was ages before I realised that a rat-catcher was a kind of jacket, though.
