I'm seriously happy to hear you enjoyed it! I'm actually pretty happy with how this turned out, so it's really nice to know someone liked it. :D

Yeah. I kinda noticed she seemed to have some regrets about what she did or how she handled some things. She also never TRULY deleted the other club members, since she was able to restore them near the end, which kinda shows she still really cared about them.
It was also kinda interesting how she never made Natsuki die, she just deleted her. I mean yeah, it could be taken as Monika going "well, the script is broken beyond repair, might as well just cut right to the chase", but I like to imagine it was sort of a mercy thing. After seeing Sayori and Yuri die like that, she probably did it to spare herself anymore scarring too.

To be honest, I can see Monika genuinely believing the others weren't real at the start. On one hand, the direction Sayori went in could have made her start thinking 'maybe they're more real/alive than I thought'. But the shock and horror of "one of my best friends is dead and I KILLED HER" probably left her in a state of numbness so she didn't really quite react to the guilt or pain or anything. But when things started breaking, when Yuri and Natsuki started acting outside the script, it just got hammered into her more and more that her friends were more real and alive than she thought. And since she had no idea how to handle or face those feelings and thoughts, she denied them and fought them and pushed them away, instead focusing on the player and just the player.
I think one of Monika's conversations in Act III also involved her mentioning how she had a tendency to keep up an act like she always had things under control. So it wouldn't surprise me if her casualness with everything in the game was that combined with the numbness and such.

So yeah basically Monika convinced herself that she was the only real living person in that world, and that everything was okay, and that all that mattered was the player, and the other girls were just hindering her happyness and such. Because the alternative was just too mind-numbingly painful and crushing for her to face, especially when stuff got really dark. It wouldn't excuse her actions, that's for sure, but it'd certainly make sense, at least to me.

      1. Honestly i'd never thought of Natsuki as an act of mercy i just kinda thought she was "to hell with this" and honestly I'm glad we didn't have to do another run through with Natsuki and Monika because aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

Although now I'm going to be overthinking what parts could have been the girls going outside of the script. Like Natsuki giving you the "poem" asking to get help for Yuri. Because I'm pretty sure that that wasn't planned.

And how self aware do you think they really are? Like it's been shown that Monika and Sayori can both become self aware, and there are points where Yuri realizes that "hmmm something's wrong with the way I'm acting"

TLDR that has nothing to do with what i just wrote, I just really freaking love this fanfic. It's a great character study.

I mean yeah, that's always possible too. There's plenty of potential reasons why she might have done things the way she did. Maybe it was mercy, maybe it was "to hell with it, everything's broken, might as well cut to the chase", maybe it was because she didn't think the player would stick around for a third round with just her and Natsuki, maybe it was because she didn't think a round with just her and Natsuki with the player would be very pleasant at all and she just didn't feel like putting anyone through it.

Oh yeah, Natsuki's poem is definitely a possible instance of self-awareness. So is that one remark Yuri made to Monika.
Hmm. It's a little doubtful they'd have shown much if any self-awareness during act 1. Though, it's possible that Monika(due to her revelation) was acting out of it, prompting the others to act just slightly different than the original script. Not enough to break anything, but enough for things to stray from the base a little. Sort of a subtle ripple effect, I guess.
Since things were breaking in act 2, just about anything could have been self-awareness. Though, plenty could also have been Monika messing with the script.
In act 4, Natsuki and Yuri's behavior being different could have been self-awareness mixed with the script. It could also have been that Sayori tweaked their code to minimise their negative qualities though(though it's just as possible Monika had tweaked their code in act 1 to increase their negative qualities).
We've seen for sure though that whoever gets the position of club president gains the meta-awareness.

Really, there's so many possibilities, haha. It's hard to say exactly how self-aware they are.
