Thank you for calling this piece of the story out. I too have had such a difficult time believing Cass would not have known *something* was up. The scenario you describe where she knew, but the idea was so horrific she blocked it out, is the most plausible to me. We never know Cass' story. What happened in her own life which would have allowed/complelled her to look the other way. That's not a storyline I'm particularly interested in, but/and that's the general frame which helped me accept her behaviour: she had been molested herself.
