Tony's thoughts slow down for the first time in his life, stuttering and slow like an out of date computer chugging through too much information with too little RAM. As everything stalls out in Siberia, his thoughts, his suit, his blood dripping from his wounds, Tony knows one thing for sure: when Pepper told him to rest, she didn't mean it like this.
To be fair, though, when he wakes up after Siberia, he doesn't get much rest at all. There just isn't time for it, not when he's got the whole future to change.

Negotiating the Accords, dealing with Ross, the end of his relationship with Pepper, Steve's faction coming back to the Avengers compound . . . the stress finally catches up with Tony in dramatic fashion. The team has to decide to step up and handle things while Tony can't. Tony has to decide if he'll let them.

When their attempts to recreate the super soldier serum failed, Hydra started trying to breed Captain America clones from his genetic samples. Unfortunately, the serum's effects aren't passed down genetically, so instead of an army of tiny Captain Americas, they get a bunch of tow-headed, asthmatic, allergic, immuno-compromised little Steves.
And then the Winter Soldier stumbles across Hydra's failed experiment...

The Winter Soldier's mission is nearly complete. Howard and Maria Stark are dead, leaving him to dispatch their four-year-old child. One quick twist of the neck is all it will take, but the Soldier finds he cannot do it.
So instead of killing Tony Stark, the Winter Soldier takes him away to raise as his own.
