As we mentioned last month, the OTW will be hosting events for International Fanworks Day again this year.
On February 15th we'll be celebrating International Fanworks Day across all timezones. Activities sponsored by the OTW are listed below, but we'd like you to let us know in the comments about other events and activities you're aware of so that we can signal boost them.
Short fanworks challenge: Get out your tablet, your laptop, or your phone and create a short fanwork on the following topic:
What does your favorite character—or your favorite pairing—get fannish over? For example:
- What if Lena takes Kara to see a Josie and the Pussycats show?
- Is Jessica Jones teaching Iron Fist how to knit porgs?
- Do the Boku No Hero Academia characters get really competitive over Animal Crossing Pocket Camp?
Post your haiku, drabble, drawble, short vid, audio work or other format no later than February 16th and tag it #IFDShare on Tumblr, Facebook, Dreamwidth, or wherever you fan. And if you post it on Archive of Our Own, tag it with the International Fanworks Day 2018 tag.
We will also be offering one of these graphic novels to 4 random participants who meet the terms of the challenge. Thank you to First Second Books for the prizes! They are:
- In Real Life, by Jen Wang
- Shattered Warrior, by Sharon Shinn and Molly Ostertag
- Little Robot, by Ben Hatke
- Cici's Journal, by Joris Chamblain and Aurelie Neyret
What Fanworks Mean to Me: Last month, we sent out a call for essay contributions about what fanworks mean to you. Some of those submissions went out through OTW News on February 3. But if you missed your chance to participate, #IFDShare is also for meta! Let people know how you feel and help spread the International Fanworks Day celebrations.
Fanlore Challenge: Fanlore is participating in IFD, too! Every day from 12 to 18 February, Fanlore will post different challenges across its social media channels and on the wiki for all editors to participate in. How well do you know your OTP? It’s time to put that knowledge to the test, and tell everyone about it!
Feedback Fest: Everyone who creates and shares fanworks loves hearing from the people who enjoyed it, so we're hosting a Feedback Fest to celebrate the works that we love. Participate by leaving a comment to our Feedback Fest post between February 13-16 with either your recs or a link to your post elsewhere with your recs tagged with #IFDFest. We will also offer 4 prizes for randomly selected participants! So share what you love about fanworks while encouraging others to leave feedback to those creators!
Games and Fan Chat: On February 15th itself we'll be hosting a chat in the OTW's Public Discussion chatroom through all timezones. Join us between 23:00 UTC 14 February and 04:00 UTC 16 February to share fanworks, or play games such as trivia contests or 20 Questions! We'll post a detailed schedule as February 15 rolls around in our earliest timezones.
Now that we've shown you ours, please show us your fandom's plans for IFD, either by commenting here or linking us to your post elsewhere!
